SUMMARY

The report, titled “Aging and perceptions of old age in Turkey,” examines aging and the position of older adults in society from various angles, ranging from household demographics to the causes of age discrimination against older adults, based on the fact that Turkish society is rapidly aging. The report also includes political preferences, the “Biopsy Report” examining the discrepancy between KONDA's field research results prior to the May 14, 2023 general elections and the ballot results, an analysis of political party leaders' speeches, and a morale index addressing the livelihood situation and economic crisis expectations of Turkish society. The report examines the practices, perceptions, and attitudes of society regarding Republic Day celebrations, their views on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and their perceptions and levels of concern regarding climate change.

KONDA Research has been conducting a series of political and social surveys called BAROMETER every month since 2010. In addition to the standard questions on demographic characteristics, political preferences and economic expectations that we regularly ask in each BAROMETER survey, we also ask questions about the public's perspective on the issues that are on the public agenda at the time and to measure their perceptions and expectations in different areas. The research, which is the 147th in the Barometer research series, was conducted on November 4-5, 2023 in 146 neighborhoods and villages of 101 districts, including the central districts of 32 provinces, by face-to-face interviews with 2833 people in their households.
