Household spending patterns in Turkey are multilayered: While rent and food remain the mainstays, education, culture, personal care, and small "moral" expenses constitute significant components of household choices. Living in a metropolitan area places a significant burden on household budgets. The percentage of people who spent money on eating out last month was 46 percent. The spending-to-income ratio for households with babies was 103 percent. The percentage of those who struggled with their spending was 58 percent.
